Valencia has responded through a statement through the official channels to the events surrounding Real Madrid striker Vinícius Júnior during the mutual duel in Mestalla on Sunday evening. The Brazilian was racially abused by supporters of the home team for large parts of the match. Justin Kluivert, who is active on a rental basis for Valencia this season, jumped into the breach for Vinícius immediately after the end and now the club itself has also announced that serious action is being taken. The fans who have been guilty of racism are no longer welcome in the stadium for the rest of their lives.
Valencia – Real Madrid is a great poster on paper, but Sunday night’s meeting had little to do with football. The home team booked an important, if not crucial, victory in the battle for enforcement, but it will not be about that at the club. The game was not only marred by the many riots between the players of Valencia and Real Madrid, but also by the racist comments against Vinícius. The Brazilian has been the victim of racism before this season, but in Mestalla his anger reached a boiling point.

Valencia distances itself from the misconduct of some of its supporters in a statement on the club site. “The club strongly condemns this behaviour, which has no place in football and does not correspond to the values of Valencia FC and our fan base. In line with the club’s ongoing commitment to racism and violence in all forms, Valencia FC announces that police have identified a fan making racist gestures towards Real Madrid player Vinícius Jr. The club is also working with the police to confirm the identities of any other potential perpetrators.
Spain’s current number thirteen reports that it has analyzed all available images in order to clarify what exactly happened as quickly as possible, in collaboration with the authorities, and to be able to act as forcefully as possible. “Valencia FC has opened a disciplinary case, will apply the maximum severity, including a lifetime stadium ban for the fans involved, and is working closely with the authorities. Valencia FC has taken a strong stance against racism and acted with the same force in 2019, with a life ban for a fan who made fascist gestures towards Arsenal fans in a UEFA Europa League match.”
The racist remarks and gestures towards him have so far not made Vinicius decide to leave Real Madrid. The rumor seeped from Brazil that a departure from Spain is one of the possibilities, but Fabrizio Romano contradicted that on Monday morning. According to the Italian transfer guru, Vinicius remains ‘just’ at Real Madrid despite increasing problems and is keen to beat racism. In addition, he is about to extend his contract.
