The life of a model sounds like a big dream to many people. When you think of the modeling world, you soon think of glitter and glamour, traveling the world, being in the spotlight and getting paid for it. At least, we think so. Can you actually get that rich with it or is it disappointing?

The reality is that many models, especially at the beginning of their careers, earn below average. Only when you make a name for yourself will your income increase. So it completely depends on a number of factors. For example, for whom you will model and how many jobs you do per month.

Start as a model

It is important to know that before you actually start earning money, you will often have to invest money yourself. You will have to hire a modeling agency that wants to arrange everything for you from A to Z, and they also want to earn something from that. So your income will not only be for you, but also for the agency.

Many models do not only do modeling work. It is therefore important that you also do something else besides this, or at least have a diploma in your pocket. So if your modeling dream goes under, you at least have an option b.

It is also important as a starting model to make considerations. For example, it may happen that you are asked for the first time by a big brand, but they are not willing to pay you a lot for this because you are not yet known.

In this case you can choose to decline the offer and to do another (lesser known) job for which you will receive more money. But what we would advise you is to just take any job that is offered to you. Especially if it’s a big brand. Of course, don’t make sure you take on too much hay.

The question of how much you earn as a model is not easy to answer, because it depends on how you have built up your portfolio and who you will model for. It is estimated that the salary of a professional model is somewhere between € 1,400 and € 10,000 per month, not counting the world top.
