Thomas van den Belt closed the season with tears on Friday evening. Not only did PEC Zwolle grab the title in the Kitchen Champion Division, but he also closed a long period by switching to Feyenoord.
PEC taste maker moves to Feyenoord
After the final whistle against Helmond Sport (2-3 win), emotion got the upper hand at Van den Belt. Bee ESPN the midfielder explained: “I started here as a little boy. We can look back on a good season, me personally too. Then there are emotions.”
“We did what we had to do, win. We knew it would be difficult to become champions, too bad we didn’t succeed. We can be proud of this season, I believe the promotion was already certain four games before the end”, said the still proud Van den Belt.
The upcoming Feyenoord acquisition thought it was ‘a kind of dream’. “The relegation was a blow. To then bring PEC back to the Eredivisie the following year and make the switch to Feyenoord, that is what you dream of. A tear can be added to that.”
