Survey: dry toilets and sealing obligation – Sailing

Last week, the Blue Flags were again awarded to marinas and beaches. This year, 135 Dutch marinas will wave the recognizable international environmental award. For tourists, the flag is the “recognition and quality symbol for clean beaches with good water quality and safe and clean marinas”, according to the organization.

Obligation to seal waste water tank

One of the criteria for a marina to receive a Blue Flag is having facilities for emptying waste water tanks. However, these facilities are rarely used. It rekindles the discussion about the discharge of black water and the obligation to seal waste water tanks. After all, don’t people still discharge their dirty water en masse, despite the ban and the facilities?

For this reason, there will be a sealing obligation for waste water tanks in 2026. A dry toilet can, in addition to other alternative options, offer a solution to circumvent this sealing obligation. Our team of dry toilet testers is now investigating how these toilets work out in practice.
