Rietveld Schröder House in Utrecht organizes guided tours in NGT

From 25 April you can follow a digital tour in Dutch Sign Language (NGT) in the Rietveld Schröder House in Utrecht. And from May 8, they will be organizing touch tours for people with a visual impairment. These adjustments make the special house more accessible for deaf, hard of hearing and blind people.

In collaboration with Stichting IN Gebaren, the tour has been translated into Dutch Sign Language. You can view the idea tour via a link or QR code via your own phone. The tour was already available in Dutch, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Mandarin, and from 25 April also in Dutch Sign Language. The tour is free if you have purchased a ticket.

Marco Grob, director of Centraal Museum, Rietveld Schröderhuis and Miffy Museum, says: ‘We strive to make as many visitors as possible feel welcome in our museums. With this program for people with a hearing or visual impairment, we hope to introduce even more people to the Rietveld Schröder House.’

Adaptations for people with a visual impairment

The special tour is available every two months. The tour starts with touching a model of the Rietveld Schröder House. Due to the fragility of the house, visitors wear thin gloves. Sounds such as audio clips bring the story of the house to life. During the tour, a guide will talk about the life and work of Gerrit Rietveld and Truus Schröder. The touch tours take place on May 8, July 27, September 5 and November 5, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
