PSV struggles with Sc Heerenveen in a crucial battle for second place

Eindhoven – PSV have not been able to take advantage of an opportunity to secure their position in second place in the Eredivisie. The team from Eindhoven struggled at home to get past SC Heerenveen and the game ended in a 3-3 draw. PSV can also count itself lucky that they managed to clear a deficit of 1-3 in the last fifteen minutes of the game.

Following these results and Ajax’s 3-1 triumph over FC Utrecht, PSV must score at least one point in their away match against AZ next week to maintain their top two spot. Meanwhile, Ajax will travel to FC Twente for their next match.

Hit and miss game

PSV’s volatile game, which characterized the first half, is a reflection of their performance this football season. The team, led by coach Ruud van Nistelrooij, took the lead after 14 minutes through a goal from Ibrahim Sangaré after a cross from Luuk de Jong.

Despite two good shooting opportunities for Xavi Simons, PSV failed to extend their lead. To make matters worse, SC Heerenveen scored the equalizer after defender André Ramalho made a mistake during a Frisian breakout, allowing Milan van Ewijk to score.

After a tough first half, in which SC Heerenveen scored the 1-2 shortly before the break, PSV tried to turn the tide in the second half with substitutes Fábio Silva and Thorgan Hazard. However, it was SC Heerenveen that managed to score another goal. With only 11 minutes to play, a goal from De Jong brought new hope to PSV. The team eventually tied the score thanks to a penalty scored by Simons, who had enforced it after being tapped inside the penalty area by Jeffrey Bruma.

Not a big turnaround

Although PSV pressed for a victory, there was no greater turnaround in the game. With an important game against AZ next week, PSV will have to work hard to keep their second place.

Alleged conflict

Prior to the match, Van Nistelrooij spoke out about the alleged conflict within the PSV coaching team. He called it an exaggerated story and expressed his satisfaction with his collaboration with Fred Rutten. Nevertheless, assistant André Ooijer will leave the team after this season to take on a new challenge.
