The low interest rates on savings have provoked many political reactions in recent days. For example, Vincent Van Peteghem (cd&v), Minister of Finance, has called on the banks in a letter to increase the savings fee. The liberals now want to raise the interest on the e-DEPO account in order to put pressure on the banks to adjust savings rates upwards.
Why is this important?At the end of last month, the government decided to cap the interest on the e-DEPO account at 2.5 percent, compared to an interest rate of 3.1 percent in April. Now the Liberals are asking for that decision to be reversed.
