It remains to be seen whether Jurriën Timber will still be an Ajax player next season. The defender already had a lot of interest last transfer summer, and that only seems to be increasing now. Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag, among others, has already flirted with a reunion. In an extensive interview with the General Journal Timber talks about his future.
“Actually, I am now in the same situation as last year. I don’t know if I’m going to take that step yet. I’m glad I’m at Ajax. You can always show yourself here,” the central defender begins. “As far as I know, Ajax wants to keep me here. Other than that I can hardly say anything about it. Discussions about this will follow soon”, Timber continues.

‘Fighting for the prizes
In August, Timber signed an improved contract with a limited transfer fee. The 21-year-old Utrechter does not regret that choice. “I never thought for a moment: I wish I had left,” says Timber, who will miss the prizes with Ajax this season. “I want to fight for the prizes, compete for the Champions League. That is still the question. Those are aspects that are important to me,” he continues.
Timber emphasizes that he is not sensitive to interest from major European clubs, and will see what his future plans are in the coming weeks. “I understand the guys who think: if a top club comes, I go. It’s also hard to say no. Only, I don’t have that at all. In my case everything is still open. Quite a lot is happening in the background in terms of interest. I’m going to see what the concrete options are soon.”
