Gift Orban and Cuypers kick KAA Gent to Europe after an entertaining match

In play-off 2, KAA Gent was able to secure European football on match day 4. Not losing against Cercle Brugge was enough for that.

Standard’s defeat in Westerlo was extra good news for Ghent, so not losing against Cercle Brugge was enough for the final win in play-off 2.

European football at stake

And a new ticket for the Conference League. Hein Vanhaezebrouck sent the expected names between the lines, with Cuypers and Orban as attack duo.

At Cercle Brugge a few substitutions. Ravych was suspended after the first leg, Popovic and Siquet were sacrificed for Denkey, Marcelin and Van der Bruggen.

The first immediately turned his base place into money, because after an interesting opening fifteen minutes in which the home team was the best, he made it 0-1 for De Vereniging.

Tension after rest

Both teams came up against the window a few more times in an entertaining first half, but we went to rest with 0-1.

After coffee it was immediately hit for KAA Gent. The Inevitable Gift Orban once again proved he has a nose for goals when Hjulsager handed him a ball. Goal 20 in as many games for the Nigerian.

The Buffalos wanted to keep going, but they didn’t get any further than some timid attempts. You had to watch out for finer meats in the first half, in the second half you could just as well enjoy the late spring sun and the better barbecue work.

Cercle Brugge would eventually take the lead from the spot, after a mistake by De Sart on Denkey: Ueda made it 1-2.

And so De Vereniging seemed to be on its way to a stunt, until Cuypers saw the 2-2 approved by the VAR. Cuypers on his way to the top scorer title, Ghent already certain of European football.
