The Garmin Fenix 6 is a multisport watch launched by Garmin at the end of 2019. The watch falls under the top class category. Its reliable wrist-based heart rate monitor and accurate Multi-GNSS (GPS, GLONASS & Galileo navigation satellite systems) make it a popular watch among those who do a lot of sports. For the occasional athlete the watch is less suitable, because then you cannot get the most out of the Fenix 6. This watch was the best watch in the top class category for us in 2020 and 2021, but has now been overthrown by its successor; the Garmin Fenix 7. Nevertheless, the Fenix 6 is still an excellent purchase, even in 2023, if you look at price/quality. Thanks to the excellent battery life, you can easily complete a whole distance with it.
Compare prices and different versions
Garmin’s Fenix series almost always comes in several versions. In the case of the Fenix 6, these are three formats, which in turn include different versions. The formats are: Fenix 6S, Fenix 6, Fenix 6X. Where the S has the smallest watch screen and the X the largest. A PRO version has also been made, which has slightly more functions, such as Trendline Popularity Routing and PacePro. Below you can see some examples of the various versions. You can see which version it is in the title of the product.

Differences between the Fenix 6 and Fenix 7
There are a number of major differences, but also similarities, between the two models. The Fenix 7 is the latest watch and has all the new things that Garmin has built in. Exactly what you could expect from a watch from 2023. The biggest differences are that the Fenix 7 does have a touchscreen and that the battery is better. For triathletes, the Fenix 6 is still excellent on many points and perhaps the best choice if you consider the recommended price important. Change? Do you now have a Fenix 6 as a triathlon watch?
If you now have a Fenix 6 as a triathlon watch, then you own a great watch for almost all triathlon distances you can think of. This is still – also in 2023 – a perfect watch for triathletes. If you want the latest of the latest, it might be worth switching to a Fenix 7, otherwise the Fenix 6 is completely fine and we don’t really see the point of buying the Fenix 7.
Can I do an entire triathlon with the Garmin Fenix 6?
Of course. The battery life in GPS is fine for it. You might even consider doing an ultra distance 😉.
Biggest advantage of the Fenix 6?
The suggested retail price. There is no other watch with the same features for this money.

Our honest opinion
Also in 2023 and certainly also in 2024 an excellent watch. The Fenix 6 was launched at the end of 2019 and is now for sale for a low price. Completely compared to the newer Fenix 7. A top watch for triathletes.
