Els de Schepper presents ‘Unsaid’

Els de Schepper processes dead nobility with ‘Unsaid’

Els de Schepper deals with the death of her loved one with ‘Unsaid’. Five years ago Els lost the Creator Adel, the love of her life. After all these years, she finally manages to talk about it and she was able to process that immense loss and grief with her new single ‘Unsaid’. It will be released this Friday, May 19, 2023 on the record label End Productions. The music for the song was written by Turkish singer-songwriter, presenter, TV and music producer Ahmet “Serhat” Hacıpaşalıoğlu, who is best known in Europe for his two participations in the Eurovision Song Contest (in 2016 and 2019). For the text, Serhat collaborated with the Belgian lyricist and Eurovision journalist Jens Geerts. ‘Unsaid’ is virtually supported by an animated video clip created by Dutch animator Michael Kuijpers. The colors and compositions in the video were inspired by Els’s drawings from her book “You get a plume!”.

A song that touches me personally

The artwork of ‘Unsaid’ was designed by Els herself. The original drawing symbolizes “gone with sorrow”. “The sadness still pours out of me after all these years. When I sing “Unsaid” now, I am in dialogue with him!” When I first heard the melody of ‘Unsaid’ I was silent for a moment. And that’s not happening anytime soon”, laughs singer Els de Schepper. Together with Jens, we then worked on the text until it was perfect. “This is a song that touches me personally, in which I recognize myself and undoubtedly many others with me. Five years ago I am Nobilitylost the love of my life. We came from completely different worlds. He was a respected surgeon Egypt and Saudi Arabia, but I couldn’t possibly live and work where he lived and worked.

A quirky and universal sound

The last time I saw him we had left certain things undiscussed. However, when I got a premonition that something was about to happen, I wanted to speak to him before it was too late. It wasn’t to be. We have not been able to see each other in this life. Yet this song is not just my story: it is an ode to the pain and memories that people carry with them. Everyone experiences difficult times in their lives. We all have that in common and I hope that by realizing this, people will feel less alone when they listen to the song.” explains singer Els de Schepper. ‘Unsaid‘ is a melancholy listening song immediately quirky and universal sound. The song shows Els from her most pure, authentic and fragile side, while she takes a journey into everyone’s deepest doubts and desires.

Turkish-Belgian cooperation

A strong song revolves around recognition like a mirror being held up. A song stays with you for life if you can identify yourself in it. As a listener you want to feel involved, to feel that you are part of the story being told. A strong song stirs emotions and so does ‘Unsaid’,” Els adds. Record label End Productions releases the new single ‘Unsaid’ by Els de Schepper internationally. The song’s music was written by the Turkish singer-songwriter, presenter, TV and music producer Ahmet “Serhat” Hacıpaşalıoğlu, who is best known in Europe for his two participations in the Eurovision Song Contest (in 2016 and 2019). His first entry “I Didn’t Know”in duet with the legendary It’s Raining Men singer Martha Washeven ended up at a 25st place in the US charts.

His self-composed song ‘Say Na Na Na’ achieved the best score ever for the mini-state San Marino and has been translated into several languages. Besides Els, it’s not the first time Serhat collaborates with a Belgian singer. In 2004 he released the duet ‘Total Disguise’ out with the Victor Lazlo, who was allowed to present the Eurovision Song Contest in 1987. Fourteen years later, ‘Total Disguise’ reached the highest position in the Greek charts after the song was sung again by Eurovision winner Helena Paparizou. In 2019, Serhat befriended lyricist and Eurovision journalist Jens Geerts. As a child, Jens was always a great admirer of Els thanks to the TV program ‘Kinderpraat’, which helped determine her childhood in the 1990s.

Eurovision journalist Jens Geerts

After seeing Els participate in Eurosong in 2006, Jens promised herself one thing: to be allowed to write a song for this idiosyncratic stage animal. Jens took the plunge in 2022 and contacted Els, who agreed. ‘Unsaid’ is virtually supported by an animated video clip, created by the Dutch animator Michael Kuipers. Michael graduated in 2020 at AKV|St. As a digital artist, he tries to create a colorful and fairytale atmosphere in his drawing style. “When I heard ‘Unsaid’ for the first time, I was touched. The song is about being forced to let go, but I mostly hear hope between the lines. Hope in which willpower, frankness and daring to make yourself vulnerable are the foundations.

The artwork of ‘Unsaid’ was designed by Els herself

A song like that deserves a worthy video clip. He therefore tells the story of Els, who navigates through a colorful dream world in search of her lost love. Every time Els thinks to get close to him again, but then he fades away like false hope. The moral is that you should move on in life. You can cherish the memories of your past love, but you have to live in the present, because on the road of life you will encounter so many beautiful things. It would be a shame if you drifted off that road and missed it,” said Michael. The colors and compositions in the video were inspired by Els’s drawings from her book ‘You get a plume!’. The artwork of ‘Unsaid’ was designed by Els herself.

Away with sadness

The original drawing symbolizes ‘gone with sorrow’. “Using this drawing as a single cover for ‘Unsaid’ was a logical choice because it conveys the same message as the song. The most efficient method to relieve your grief is to give it some air and share it,” says Els. “So call a friend, join a support group, write a journal, or cry it off in a song like ‘Unsaid’. Because sorrow shared is sorrow half.” According to Els de Schepper. When I now’Unsaid’ sing, I am in dialogue with Adel. The new Els de Schepper single ‘Unsaid’ is digitally available and was released on the international End Productions label.
