Frenkie de Jong is having a great time at Barcelona, he emphasizes in an interview with Ziggo Sport. The midfielder can’t wait to come out in the club colors of the Spanish top club next season.
Relationship between De Jong and Laporta
Last summer it looked like he had had his longest time at Barcelona. According to the club board, the Orange international was superfluous and was allowed to leave for Manchester United by president Joan Laporta, but de Jong ultimately kept his leg stiff and continued to play in Camp Nou.
Although he spent a lot of time on the reserve bench at the start of the football year, he eventually came to 25 base places and 4 raids in the competition. In addition, he came into action several times in the Champions League and Europa League, making the season of De Jong, who became champion with Barcelona, more than successful.
Where it came out in the past that he did not get along well with Laporta, this is not the case, according to the footballer. “I am fine with the chairman. I’ve never been bad with him. Of course we had that situation in the summer, but my relationship with him is fine,” he says in the conversation.
Messi’s return to Barcelona
He also discusses the possible arrival of Lionel Messi, who, according to De Jong, is more than welcome. “Of course you sometimes hear something, but I don’t know more about it than you know at the moment. He is a fantastic player and it would be nice if he comes back, but I have no idea if it will happen or not.”
