Assen nurse admits he killed 20 people but refuses to name them – The Northern Times

Theodoor V., the nurse suspected of having ended the lives of at least twenty patients at the Wilhelmina Hospital in Assen, has not named anyone of them so far, the Algemeen Dagblad reports today citing the relatives of the medic’s possible victims. That could make it more difficult for the prosecution to issue an arrest warrant for the man they believe.

The Public Prosecution Service will now be forced to sift through all the patient files at V.’s workplace for any suspicious events. The Justice Department does not expect it will be able to come up with more concrete evidence of the crime until the end of June. V.’s pretrial detention expires in early June, which means the nurse will have to be released unless charges are filed before that time.

Theodoor V. was detained in mid-April on suspicion of involvement in the deaths of at least 20 COVID-19 patients, mostly elderly people. The 30-year-old nurse worked in the respiratory department where COVID patients were treated. The deaths took place between March 2020 and May 2022.

Theodoor V. was employed by the Wilhelmina Hospital since October 2019. Prior to that, he worked for a year at Groningen’s Martini Hospital and before that at the University Medical Center Groningen. He also completed an internship in Germany.
